English Grammar In Use

Jaime Said:

How is it that so many people do not use, or know how to use, proper English grammar and spelling?

We Answered:

Two primary reasons lead to such activity. One is that quality teachers are rather uncommon and the approach most schools take are not conducive to good grammar. The assumption is that if a kid reads that is all he needs. He isn't taught to interpret, he isn't taught grammar directly, and he isn't monitored or tested for either.
The other reason is that most pupils and students find reading "boring." This is partly the fault of the problem above but also from the fact that they are taught no context for literature. Eudora Welty points out in an essay on reading that children need to be taught mythology and early human literature just as they are taught math before algebra.
In short, it is the result of prevalent semi-literacy.
("Then" and "than" are now in free variation and "you're" is almost extinct.)

Geraldine Said:

pls kindly checky my grammar, use of english and spelling to the following employment application answer?

We Answered:

You have some really good ideas for this answer, I believe some help with the professionalism and grammar will benefit you greatly.... how does this sound to you? I think it will be better received...

I believe that the (insert job title) postion at Deloitte will benefit from my employment because I am a successful (insert degree major) student at (name of your university). My great success thus far are a clear demonstration of the success that I will be at Deloitte, and specifically in the (insert job title) position. I thoroughly enjoyed the expirience I had at the recent job fair held in California. The Deloitte staff demonstrated professionalism and the presence of a friendly atmosphere. In light of the help I received from my potential future colleagues I believe the working environment at Deloitte will be supportive and fun. I also feel that Deloitte is fitting for my abilities and will be a great asset to the development of my professional Accounting and personal skills.

English grammar: The use of "doesn't matter" and "no matter" in a certain context?

We Answered:

As others have said, "doesn't matter" or "it doesn't matter" is preferable in this situation.

Your question needs a slight revision. Use either "Should I dress in the . . . " or "Should I wear the . . . . " "Wear" is more common.

English grammar: Use of one, one’s / they, their, them?

We Answered:

You can't mix them together! It wouldn't really make sense about who you're talking about.
You could, instead use 'we' i.e. 'as we get on with life in the present' so you are talking about both yourself (one) and others (them)
Hope that helped! x

rules of japanese grammar and use of english letters?

We Answered:

Like any language, there are tons of rules. Invest in classes or some sort of audio course, such as Pimsleur.

And don't use romaji (Japanese written in roman letters). Japanese may occasionally write stuff in English (in general, not necessaily romaji), but for the most part they use hiragana, katakana, and kanji. Learn their writing systems.

EDIT: If you use Pimsleur, be sure to invest in some workbooks or something that will teach you to read and write.
