Cursive Writing English

Carlos Said:

i want to know is cursive style hand-writing easy to read for native speakers?

We Answered:

in most english speaking countries everyone has to learn. in my case in 3rd grade we started and all through elementary school it was mandatory. the typical alfabeth learned is the one i posted with the link. but the "Q" you see there most people don't use in real life since it looks too much like a 2 so just put "Q" when you write

in a computer font, yes it's easy to read but make it at least a 14

Brandy Said:

Can you write in cursive in other languages besides English?

We Answered:

First, as you'd expect, other Romance and Germanic languages (French, Spanish, German, Italian, etc.) use cursive as we do in English.

Second, there are plenty of languages with different letters that have a cursive. Hebrew, for example, has a cursive version.

Gene Said:

Andre Said:

Cursive writing.....Is it compulsory to gain more marks?

We Answered:

Hmm, that is strange. I think it probably just depends on the teacher. Different teachers have different preferences, so you should probably just ask.

I live in the US, and most of my teachers don't care whether we write in cursive or print, as long as the handwriting is legible, and they certainly wouldn't mark me down for using one style over the other.

Irma Said:

can the french who live in france read english cursive?

We Answered:

Not only are the French able to read English cursive (or what is called "joined up writing" in the UK), that is the way they write themselves and they are taught it at primary school. All school examinations are written in cursive.
The style of writing where letters are unconnected is considered babyish or unsophisticated.
In fact prospective employers in France attach some importance to applicants' handwriting and often request a handwritten cover letter attached to a typed CV to determinate or assess a person's character.
Obviously the ability to read a handwritten letter depends on the legibility of the sender's writing, and if the text is in a foreign language it should be as clear and as easy to read as possible.

Can Spanish speakers read and write in cursive or is limited to English?

We Answered:

Der Schreckliche is right, Spanish speakers are not cave men. We can write cursive too. I was taught to write cursive since the 1st grade back in Mexico. There's no difference writing cursive alphabet in Spanish.

Zachary Said:

Do written languages, like Russian or Arabic, have equivalents to cursive, like English does?

We Answered:

Russian is a Slavic, therefore Indo-European language and it has both print and cursive style.
