Writing Resume Samples

Irene Said:

Why do some employers ask for a writing sample along with a resume'? What's the proper fromat?

We Answered:

They're checking you out, bro.

Writing samples, in addition to a resume, are a good way to see if the styles of the two documents match, and if the persons submitting them are writing their own stuff and are able to express themselves effectively.

Now that more and more jobs require less phone support and more written communications skills, particularly quick electronic ones like these, employers want to make sure their candidates can get a message across without embarrassing the company.

Another thing they may be looking for is dyslexia, or the tendency to switch letters and numbers around without noticing it. Done with numbers, such errors pass spell checks and can cost the company lots of money (even though dyslexics are often gifted in other ways). The word "fromat" in your question is an example of this, although anybody can make a typo by mistake. Just make sure you spell check them all out first.

Last but not least, some use these writing samples to analyze personality just like other tests, using certain algorithms that detect character traits.
