Writing An Effective Resume

Douglas Said:

How do I write an effective job resume as an administrative assistant?

We Answered:

It might help to see a sampling of what such resumes look like. There are lots of resources on the web - you can take a look at samples of various resume types specific to your title and find one you like to tailor to highlight your specific skills and experiences!

Here's a few to get you started:

good luck!

Albert Said:

What are some other good ways of writing a resume?

We Answered:

In Section 1: Be sure to put in your e-mail address as well. Section 2: Rather than something about your objective (Marine Biologist) this is where the the Personal Description might be: Very good at multi-tasking, team member, leadership qualities, detail oriented, computer skills, etc. And, not giving out your personal references until they want them to verify info is the way to go. Why bother your resources unless there's a job offer on the line.
People in middle school looking for a job are not expected to have a resume. You can make one if you're in middle school-- but I've never seen one, nor expected one.

Here are some tips:
1. If you have less than 10 years of experience, you want your resume to be one page.
2. Generally, clearly show your name, mailing address, email address if available, and best phone number(s) to contact you.
3. Then show your education, work experience, any interests, achievements, and skill sets. Under your work experience, it is not a list of your job descriptions (this is a common mistake). You should instead indicate what you have accomplished and the results. Use action verbs.
4. If you are looking for your first job or intend to change job function / industry, you may want to state your objectives.
4. There is no one “correct” format. It depends on your profession and personal style.
5. Also, try not to use technical words and jargons. Do not abbreviate.

You can post your resume at:

I would also go to your bookstore and find a resume book in the business/career section. You can also find more examples and templates online if you do a search.

Good luck and have a nice day.
