Vets - Suggestions for finding a job after military life?We Answered:
I am a veterans' employment specialist. I agree with what you are saying. Here are a few more suggestions:- Contact your city, county or state workforce center. Most will have veterans representatives on staff. These reps will find vet friendly employers in the area and give vet preference job leads.
- Join a veterans service organization. This will look good on your resume and may provide numerous contacts and leads.
- Look for volunteer opprotunities with government and non-governmental entities, often this will lead to a paying position.
Good luck Vets!

How do you write a winning USAjobs online resume? We Answered:
Check out the link below for a guide for what to include in a government resume. Don't try to limit it to one page, especially if you have substantial work experience. Read the qualifications carefully and you should be able to pick out what they're looking for and whether you have listed anything they're looking for. Be sure to put a month and year, total hours a week, and salary for any work experience. Otherwise, it may not be counted toward qualifying experience.Even if you're a perfect match, unless you are going for something with a fairly specific skill set, remember that you are up against a tremendous number of people. My coworker told me today that the most she received was a job announcement open for three days that resulted in 1800 applications. Yep...no extra zeroes there, That's eighteen hundred applications. Most jobs that are open for three days result in at least several hundred applications. If there is one vacancy, all it takes is one qualified vet for an equally qualified non-vet to be non-selected. But if there are a number of vacancies, there are inevitably non-vets who are hired along with some qualified vets. Keep trying and good luck.

Federal Resume Writing...?We Answered:
The best place to start is at www.usajobs.gov. They have lots of tips on writing a federal resume, and you can use their resume builder to build a resume and have one available for applying for federal jobs that are announced on USA Jobs. http://www.usajobs.gov/ei/resumeandappliā¦They are NOT "about 5 pages long" unless you have the requisite experience to fill 5 pages. For what information is required, provide the same information as is required on the OF-612. Find it here: http://www.opm.gov/forms/html/of.asp
Before you build your resume, the most important thing you can do is to read the announcement, especially the major duties. If you can show that your experience developed the same skills that you will need for the position for which you are applying, you will have a good resume. The major duties will tell you what you need for key words. Try building it yourself before spending the money.
