I would start it....Dear sir or madam.....then don't make it any longer than 1 page. Highlight why you want the job and how your qualifications will match with the job description. End the letter with.....I look forward to meeting with you to further discuss how I can benefit your company.(some variation of that, use specifics).

We Answered:

Call the company and ask the operator for the name of the person you want to recieve your resume. By using a person's name it shows that you have researched the company and are not just fishing by sending out a mass mailing of resumes.

I always put "Dear Hiring Manager,". No negative comments yet.
