Tips On Resume Writing

Erik Said:

I need tips on writing a resume...?

We Answered:

Your question has several parts:

1) The Cover Letter should start out with a general interest in the company and how you feel that you can meet their needs for whatever position. It should then also include a very brief summary of your following resume or CV for explanation. And finally should end with a statement that says, "I look forward to speaking with you (insert an end date of a range)" and by the end of that date you should do a follow up.

2) For multiple positions with 1 company you can use two different tactics: a) use a curriculum vitae (CV) instead of a resume which is more exhaustive (minimum 2 pages) and explains positions, accomplishments, etc. in detail as well as hobbies, certifications, clubs, etc. OR b) use the final position you ended at on your resume, and make mention below it that you were promoted several times (use exact number) resulting in your final positon

3) Resumes are different based on the reviewer, some say they only look at white, bonded paper, while others prefer an off color that stands out - my recommendation is always purchase 'resume paper'

Hope this helps.

Tamara Said:

Resume writing, do I include college if I dropped out?

We Answered:

Please, lots of people didn't graduate college. That doesn't make you a loser. Besides, the current economic climate is making things tougher on everyone.

Put that you attended college, I think, but don't put down a graduation date because you didn't graduate. In an interview there's nothing wrong with saying you're a few credits short of graduating but it's something you want to do.

Tips on writing my first resume [applying for writer]?

We Answered:

Focus on relevant activities you've taken part in in the past when you've been able to use useful skills that may also be relevant to the job you'll be applying for. Volunteering within your community and doing well in school can be great environments to learn about customer service, accountability, and problem solving. Don't try to add more activities to your resume if they don't exist; instead, spend time fleshing out the experiences you've had in light of your skills and accomplishments. To achieve success in your job search, address the needs of the job in your resume.

If you're a recent graduate, it's very important to emphasize in your resume the following:

In the Summary section of your resume, impress the prospective employer that through your education and computer and other skills, you've the aptitude to succeed in the job.

Here's the format for your resume:

1. Name, address, telephone numbers (work and home), and e-mail ID
2. Summary of your qualifications and skills
3. Awards
4. Project Work
5. Computer skills / other skills
6. Core Courses
7. Education details
