Tips on resume writing for a 17 year-old's first job? at Subway, we hope?

We Answered:

Jobs like fast food worker don't normally require resumes, though having one may make your son stand out among the applicants.

I'd use this format:

Job Objective: (and say, to work at Subway or to work in a fast food establishment or whatever)

Education: (put the name of his school, and years attended so far. You can put that he's currenlty a junior or whatever. If he has taken any classes that would be relevant to the job, such as food preparation, accounting, etc., list them.)

Experience: (Since this is his first job, there won't be previous jobs, but has he done any kind of work? Odd jobs, volunteer work, even personal projects that show skills needed for Subway. Don't forget people skills, so any group projects that show teamwork or fundraising from the public...)

Achievements: Add this section if your son has won any awards or honorable mentions for anything.

Keep the resume to one page, wide margins, readable font size, lots of whitespace. Make sure everything is spelled and punctuated correctly.

Can someone offer some help with my resume?

We Answered:

I agree with sarah palin above me. You do not need to put any information you don't want to unless it is specifically asked for. Your previous salary is a big negotiating point and if you use it to your advantage, you can get them to get an increase in salary if they think their original offer was too low.
