Accountancy, much like medical and engineering, is what is termed a technical job.

All employers employ on a combination of skills, qualifications and experience, but in technical jobs you need to prove that you have the right qualifications and professional certifications BEFORE they will consider the rest of your CV/job application. Hence, make sure your qualifications are up to date, and your professional body membership also: state these high in your CV.

After that its the normal personal statement and chronological format of the modern hybrid CV. make sure you include STAR based write-ups, and focus on what you were responsible for/to whom.

There are lot of great websites on the internet about resumes, cover letter, interview tips, etc.. Type the word cover letter in any search engine. Mircosoft Word has template for cover letter. Monster.com has sample killer cover letter. But, here are some sites that I have save in my folder on my computer.

Does it add to your skills and qualifications to do that job or not? Every cat and its wife reads a book, watches TV or goes out with friends. Are you the captain of a sports team to show leadership, organise something to show admin, research something to show diligence, etc.

Don't add things to look interesting, add relevance.

Another approach is to concentrate on your achievements in past jobs. Don't use "I" - they know it's your CV so you don't need it.
