the advantage of PDF is that people cannot (or most of them) modify it, and also between countries you dont have the A4 or US letter restrictions, also in DOC people may have problem with margins and you document may not display properly or not aligned.

if you have proof, documents, when you send a resume, it won't hurt to inlcude a copy of your credentials, although, you have to be careful on this because you might be too over-qualified on the position you are applying for. if you are applying for a position not the highest in this field, you have to be very observant on the job advertisement of the company for that main reason.
