If you have an idea, just start writing. If you outline too much, your idea might die before you even start drafting. But if you really have your heart set on outlining, then here are a few methods:

Put the title of the scene and describe each scene in separate index card. This allows you to rearange the novel to your heart's content. Also works with movie maker software and power point if you're computer savvy, like me.

Draw a calendar or clock (a calendar if it takes place over several weeks or months, and a clock if it takes place over a few hours or days) and write in the events in the appropriate places. This is my favorite method, and it's the only method I've ever used that works for me.

You'll have to figure out which method works best for you. For me, I don't outline very much. But then, I also know people who would shrivel up and die if they weren't alowed to outline. Same thing goes for the outline/resume of the characters and the plot outline. Find a way that works for you and stick with it.
