How To Write An Impressive Resume

How to write an impressive career objective on a teaching assistant resume?

We Answered:

How to write an impressive career objective on a teaching or teaching assistant resume? Don't. Instead, write an impressive career objective in your cover letter. Your opening paragraph in your cover letter states the position you are applying for (title), the name of the company (or school district), and how you found out about it (on Edjoin). Your next paragraph in your cover letter gives a brief indication of some of your strengths relative to the position that you are applying for, using the exact wording in the job posting and the identical wording on your resume. The final sentence of that middle paragraph refers to your resume. Your final paragraph in your cover letter prompts the reader to take action to contact your for an interview, such as calling or emailing you.

If your cover letter is done correctly, you should not distract from your resume by restating the obvious. Even without a cover letter, a well-written resume makes it evident what type of position that you are applying for. If the open position is in kindergarten, your teacher training or previous aide experience was in kindergarten, and your credential is in early childhood education, then the reader automatically knows that you would make a great kindergarten teacher; not a high school physics teacher. If the open position is an SDC teacher, your previous years of teaching or service as an aide were with students having severe disabilities, and your credential is moderate-to-severe, then you fit the job opening in your email header and the opening listed in your opening paragraph of your cover letter, so listing it again wastes valuable reading time for the screener.

This is a clean approach the avoids "fluff" or "padding" a resume.

How do you write an impressive resume without job experience?

Writing resumés gets easier with more experience, but to make them look good isn't that hard. If you have Microsoft Publisher, I am pretty sure they do have template that you can simply fill out. All you really need to do is include your name, contact information, and clubs or activities you have or are participating that might relate to the job you are applying for, and some references. To be honest, you probably won't need a resume for a part time job, mainly because these are usually jobs as waitresses or cashiers. If you go to your local grocery store or restaraunt, you can find out if they have an application for you to fill out, and you can ask the manager that is hiring if he would like to see a resumé. If that is the case, then you know you should just make one, and it shouldn't be too hard. Here is a basic outline of what you should definitely include:
Your Full Name:
Objective (what you are applying for):
Why you should get the job (emphasize good traits, and mention bad traits that can be seen as something positive such as "sometimes i get too focused on what I am doing and might not notice a customer asking for help". Try to stay away from bad traits, though):
Activities or Clubs (or in your case, a fraternity you may belong to):
Anything that may count as experience (even just watching your sisters when you were little or doing dishes at a large family party. Make sure that this can relate to the job you are applying for):
References (people who owe you a favor and will put in a good word for you. Be sure to ask them before you use them in your resumé and include their phone number and address.):

At the moment, that is all I can think of that you would need on a resumé, but like I said, most jobs that involve physical labor (such as bagging groceries or serving food) don't require a resumé, but they might require an interview. If this is the case, be sure to remain calm and confident, look your best (no matter where you are applying), and arrive on time, if not 5 minutes early.

Good luck finding a job (:
