How To Write A Resume And A Cover Letter

Mike Said:

How to write a cover letter for a summer camp? Also should I focus on volunteer instead of job exp. in resume?

We Answered:

Focus on skills rather than volunteer or job experience. Pull from both types of experiences.

It may be helpful to look at the job description and circle all the skills required and the duties that person will be doing. Find examples of how you've completed those skills in past volunteer or job experiences and highlight those in your cover letter.

A quick article is listed below on how to write the cover letter. Basically, you want to show (through examples) rather than tell how qualified you are.

Good luck!

how can i right a killer resume and cover letter?

We Answered:

First of all your resume must be related to the job you are applying for. If you send the same resume to different jobs you'll find it very hard to get an interview etc.

Make sure your resume is easy to read, outlines your main skills and accomplishments and is concise. Try and keep it to one page.

Start with an "objective" or a "summary" of your skills and achievements. Keep this short. Use bullet points etc. This is where you sell yourself and is also what is read first.

Next detail your skills and accomplishments. Add meat to the bones. Show then why you are the person for the job!

Next outline your work experience. Start with most recent job and work backwards. Tell them what you did and evidence responsibilities. Keep it short, to the point and relevant.

Finally, outline your education, exam passes etc. If you want you can add your interests/hobbies.

Resume cover letter for temp sercvice?

We Answered:

I would include a cover letter, even though it is a temp service. Just a generic "Hi, I'm so and so and am interested in finding employment through your agency...The type of work I am looking for is...but I am open to any potential opportunities you might suggest based on my skills and background..."

Keep it brief, to the point and make sure it is 100% grammatically correct.

The agency is going to be selling you on their behalf, so want to make sure you are professional. The more they believe in you, the better job offers you will get directed towards.

Discuss It!
