How To Write A Cover Letter For Resume

Nancy Said:

Can you help me to write a cover letter for my husband's resume?

We Answered:

I think honesty is the best policy here.

I am writing in regards to your add in the SouthernOhioian for an electrician. I am relocating to southern ohio to be closer to family (or to get away from the rat race of the big city... or whatever. Small town people will *get* wanting to be there for small town values)

The middle paragraphs should be standard cover letter stuff... addressing how the hubby fits the requirements of the job.

Your closing paragraph should discuss when he will be available (a month... six weeks... can get moved quickly and start without delay). Also, if you're going to be in the area house hunting, it should mention the days that'll be true and suggest an interview while you're in town.

Just remember that you want the employer to be assured that there's no disadvantage to hiring someone who isn't there yet.

Good luck.

Miguel Said:

How should I e-mail my cover letter and resume?

We Answered:

I'm assuming you weren't told out-right that they did not want any cover letters. Often, if a cover letter is not asked for, it is not wanted. These people will be doing a lot of reading and often resumes that require more reading are thrown out without immediately. That said, if you think it's a good idea to write a cover letter, go for it. Attach it separately, BELOW the resume attachment, so it can be easily ignored if it is not wanted.

I usually google one and change it so that I make it really professional. Also, I think that word has a really good template. Sell yourself, but don't make your self over-inflated, if you know what I mean.

How to prof. send a resume through e-mail/ How to write a cover letter.?

We Answered:

Cover letter are sales pitches, with the product being yourself. You say Dear So-and-so, I see you have a position advertised (describe which position you are applying for--send a separate cover letter and resume for each position). Then explain why you are a good fit for the position, pointing out the parts of your resume that apply. Finish with Thank you for your consideration, I hope to hear from you soon blablabla.
