I have not used their service. Nor would I advise you to use their service. Because I used to hire and interview people, I have seen some of the resumes services put together and they are no different from those you can put together by looking or following templates. It's all in the word organization. My suggestion is you put one together and let folks on Yahoo Answers help tweek it.

Hello!!!
I too and a baby boomer and made the same mistake of handing in a resume a number of times that was about 20 pages long with qualifications that were up to 10 years old. I had it bound and all.

I now know that all employers want is a list of the current qualifications. This is usually nothing older than 5 years if it is from University or TAFE or other training organisation. Say briefly that you have worked in retail and are still engaged in that area. That you enjoy that work, are though to do it well and that you would like to stay in retail.

In stead of using a paragraph to explain that you spent 17 years working in a bank. You simply write under a heading work experience:

Finance industry 17 years - banking.

then describe the others like

Retail - haberdashery 5 years

Retail - butchers and small goods 18 months

Retail - supermarket - 4 years

and so on putting the time spent in each job after it. If they are interest in you as an employee then they will discuss your likes and dislikes when they meet you in person. A photocopied copy of any qualifications that has been verified by a JP is also a good idea. NEVER send in originals as a lot of resumes are binned after six months if not immediately.

Some organisations give a form to fill in for job applications. It is here that you can make the most of promoting yourself in the space provided. It is a good idea to sit down and work out what you want to say in this space and then write it out in the rough before putting the final draft onto the application form.

And yes everything has changed unbelievably since I got my first job at Coles as a "counter jumper". I just can't believe it is the same country. I wish you luck in trying to get a job. It is getting hard for baby boomers to get work though. I know I have found it difficult to get employment agencies to take me seriously.
