How To Make A Cv

Ashley Said:

How to make my CV LOOK appealing?

We Answered:

HI,

You want to make your CV stand out from others so some tips for you.

Start with Profile: about 4-5 lines that tell the reader about you, your experience and what you're looking for. For example: An ambitious, reliable and hard-working individual with previous experience gained within a fast moving retail industry. Strong team player with excellent customer service skills who will go that extra mile to ensure that customers' needs are met. Keen now to build on experience within the retail industry with a company that will build on all the transferable skills whilst providing opportunities for advancement.

Then have another heading - Key Skills - in this section include your skills in relation to what the job advert states. For example if it says they are looking for a team player, shift worker, someone who can follow instructions then you should demonstrate this in this section.

Good team player who is approachable and always willing to help colleagues
Flexible approach to working hours
Ability to undertake tasks from line management and see them through to conclusion with minimum supervision.

You would bullet point these Key skills also.

Next heading would be your Employment Summary

In here, you would start with your most recent job and work back.

Next heading would be Qualifications & Training and highlight your qualifications and also any training courses you did that maybe didn't give you a recognised qualification.

Last heading would be Personal Information - in here you would have something like - Licences - car, full and clean
Health: excellent, no casual sick days in last xx years

Hope this helps and some extra tips also

If sending hard copy, print off on nice 100gm paper and ALWAYS attach a covering letter, the same applies with email CV, always send an introductory email accompanying the CV

Don't photocopy the CV, original copies each time
Don't fold, A4 envelope with 1st class stamp
Font should be 10/11 and either Verdana or Ariel - no colours, just black

Good luck and if I can help you with anything else just let me know.

I have over 10 years experience in career guidance and also as a manager who has interviewed thousands of people over the years.

How to make my CV better?

volunteering looks very good on everyone's CV. it's like actual work but without the pay. it gives you experience and the chance to be of service to the community.

I advice you not to try to be something you aren't ...and don't lie about things you don't know to do, experience you do not have and qualities you don't have! If someone will hire you will do it for those things you wrote in your cv and if they don't reflect the reality , then they will soon come out and you will surely be fired...

I'm 16 looking for a job, I can't make a CV, so what can I make?

We Answered:

Anyone can make a CV, you kinda need one for a proper job as people usually ask for them.

Google - theres loads of templates as to how to make a CV

basically its just listing Key Skills eg. good at organisation, communicating etc which you can have gained in school teamwork etc.
Then your educational history - usually secondary school and what grades,
Then Your work experience even if its just school work experience or a paper round, including the address of the company and brief job description eg responsible for filing etc
Then your aims eg. want to enhance my skills in customer service for a career in...
Then two reference, usually from high school but could be from sport coach, guide/scout leader..something along those lines

if you're looking for a job for life you could maybe try for an apprenticeship or something run by your local education partnership

Also add grades you got. Only add ENGLISH, MATHS, SCIENCE, If they want to ask more about other grades they will invite you for a interview to discuss this.

work experience (date you started and date you finished) Write down even if it was a week. Write down where you done it and what your duties were.

hope it helps :)

No matter how good your CV is. If your cover letter isn't great it will get you nowhere.
