Writing Report Card Comments

Jerome Said:

What was the funniest comment ever written on your report card?

We Answered:

I couldn't read it. And when we asked the teacher what it said, she struggled (with her own writing) and then with a straight face said 'handwriting is often untidy'.

Jessie Said:

What comments were usually on your *^*Report Card*^*?

We Answered:

Lmfao.
The last year i got comments in my report card were in 8th grade
they were usually like "Nora is academically achieving."
"Nora is always helpful in the classroom" "she has overall grown a great amount in her effort & cooperation during class"

When i read those comments my mouth dropped.
I didnt know teachers could pull that much sh*t out of their A*s

Lucy Said:

is your school report card a good or bad one.what do teachers write for comments what do your parents do when?

We Answered:

I've always worked very hard, so grades were usually quite high. My kids, though, are alot like Dad! Sometimes good, often not so hot (both for legit and lazy reasons). Teachers write a variety of note: pleasure to have in class, shows interest, a bit too social (nice way of sayin could you get your kid to hush up a bit?!), does not make good use of class time, missing assignments that kind of thing.

As a parent, it depends on the reason for the grade. If they do well (at or above what they should be able to do), we always praise and sometimes allow extra privileges. If they are doing the best they can (really do study, all the hw is done, and have asked for help), but the scores don't reflect that, that's ok. It's effort, not genius we expect. Now, say my kid pretty much blew off half the grading period and has an F--bye bye PS2, cell phones, and going out/social times are strictly limited to Sat nights (curfew moved up to 9pm). Those consequences dissappear when effort and commitment return.

Daniel Said:

Would you return the report card?

We Answered:

you are right---the negatives should be saved for conference time with the parent.....a report card should be as encouraging as possible.....but keep in mind---the students performance in class--reflects the teachers classroom environment---with the teachers not taking control in their classes nowadays, how is your child supposed to act?

Suzanne Said:

Was there any need for my teacher to write this on my report card?

We Answered:

Sorry you are kind of a regular. But that being said, I would never write this stuff on an otherwise good report. The detentions should have been signed by the parents anyway (weren't they informed each time?), so why bring it up again?

Report cards should be about academics at this age anyway, don't you think? The school should be calling your parents if they have a concern about your behavior.
