Andre Said:

When describing a pupil what do the abbreviations ST and SA (+) mean?

We Answered:

I used to teach in a school in Manchester. If a kid stroked his right ear ... it meant "your Mum is a WHORE!" The left." I have ****** your sister".. Try and get a grip of THAT BODY LANGUAGE! xx BEST OF LUCK !!!

need help plz in writing a report ?

We Answered:

Please be more specific. What age are they? What topic are you doing this for? What class?

Just in case, you could always go for the easy way out and write a report on the environment. Even better, here's a guide and a manual you can download about bugs & pests. It will show you how to begin and prepare a presentation and report.

Helping children write using VISUAL cues/ stimuli?

We Answered:

It would help to know the age-group or at least the key-stage you'll be teaching.

You may consider providing them with pictures of various parts of the event that they are reporting. If it's a diary style report for example, there'll be a picture of them having breakfast, then going to the park or whatever. The lesson lead-in could involve a sequencing activity based on these pictures where the children have to put them in the right order without verbal clues.

Alternatively, I've seen short video clips used very successfully as stimuli for report writing. Look on Youtube for suitable clips. The children may be allowed to take notes during the second showing of the video. A decent video not only helps to engage them, but provides a clear sequence for the report.

Finally, setting up a writing framework would be useful. I'm assuming there'll be a class discussion about the various features of a report, and the theme of each paragraph in a modelled report. You can then provide a framework sheet for the lower-ability children, whereby they are asked to write a few notes in the intro box, then in the first paragraph box etc etc. They would then used this completed report framework to write their notes up into the finished report.

In all respects, big colour pictures (on the IWB perhaps) and videos are an invaluable resource.
