Writing Audit Reports

Kathy Said:

Can you help me with writing a cover letter with these info?

We Answered:

I can't write a cover letter without knowing how your experience ties in with these job functions. Here are a few high level things I read that you could use to highlight previous work experience: audit, procedure, review, verify, accuracy, data entry and modification, spreadsheet formulas, variance reports and investigation (i.e. explanation), presentation, communication.

Basic cover letter advice: try to minimize the "I statements" and focus on how you fit the companies needs. The list above is too extensive to cover all of them in a cover letter, so modify your resume to focus on experience that relates to those items. Pick one or two to explain in the cover letter to entice them to interview you. You might want to search online for advice on cover letters or even invest in a book. I think the "Knock 'em Dead" series is great and you can buy the older versions for really cheap (Resumes that knock 'em dead, cover letters that knock 'em dead, etc.).

Ignore the harshness of the previous answer. You got your degree in finance which means you're probably better with numbers that words. Anyone that wants to hire you will not only understand, but actually prefer that strength.

Information about different types of Audit?

We Answered:

So have an intro and conclusion, and then 7 different parts to write about roughly speaking, so 300 words per heading. This is easily doable, but depends on the depth you're going into.

Definitions:

Financial Statement Audit - your standard audit, to check the balances are correct in the FS. Checking completeness, accuracy, allocation, cut-off, rights and obligations, and so on.

Internal Control Effectiveness - testing the controls an organisation has in place. Internal audit perform these roles in general. Example, two signatures on a cheque payment (authorisation)

Compliance - in line with regulations.

VFM -?

Environmental - companies or organisations where compliance with Enviro issues are important.

Internal - very specific to requirements of org.

Forensic - not 100% sure.

Not sure if this helps, but might get you started. Not sure on online resources as this is quite vague, maybe wikipedia?

cheers
