I'm not sure what you mean by the "editing industry." If you mean the publishing industry, jobs are highly competitive and you'll need to start at the bottom, possibly with a more clerical-type job. There are also editing positions at many other types of companies (sometimes within a documentation or public relations department), but, again, with no experience or training in the field, you'll probably have to come the "back door" via another job within the company. If you saved any of the reports you wrote for your previous employer that would be good, because you can use those as writing samples when you apply for writing/editing jobs.

To prepare for this new field you're interested in, you'll need to hone your writing skills a bit further. For example, you should review the use of semi-colons -- twice in your post you used a comma where you should have used a semi-colon (before each of the "however"s).
