Jim z is 100% correct. My employer owns the email server. We are allowed to use company email for personal reasons; but the equipment and content on the server are owned by the company.

My employer isn't the only entity allowed unfettered access to my work emails; the SEC can have such access anytime it chooses to. We are required by law to back-up our email server and preserve our email traffic.

If the Climategate CRU, NASA-GISS and academics like Mann had to work in the same environment as companies regulated by the SEC, many of them would have long ago been perp-walked off to Federal courts.

We Answered:

For my papers I always write in third person, so write as if you have already done it.
So for example instead of "I mixed the solution together..." you should write "The solutions were mixed together and the end result was..."

And yes it is best to use "the researcher" or "the author", occasionally you can use "I", but keep it to a minimum.
