The practical work is quite easy. The three sciences are assessed separately. You will do at least 2 planned experiments which you will then analyse and evaluate (the experiments themselves tend to be pair work).

We also did a case study on a science issue in the media for our third unit in year 9. This, alongside an experiment with particular focus on data handling made up our third unit.


Don't worry about the practical skills: these make up part of the mark but you can make up for mistakes by analysing, evaluating and explaining your method. Generally you will do a pre-test which will allow you to develop some skills for the experiment, ensuring you are confident in the actual experiment.


Your final mark for each science will be made up of the modular exams (+ unit 7) and either a case study, data analysis or practical investigation. Your teachers may choose to do any combination of these for your 3 science GCSEs.
