Can anyone explain this?We Answered:
This is about deciding whether a linear equation (looks like a line) or a quadratic equation (looks like a curve) is the best fit (or model) for a set of data.It looks like in a previous assignment you created a linear equation and a quadratic equation, each based on the food CPI (consumer price index?), and each designed to predict the next month's results.
Now your job is to take the data from the most recent CPI (which probably looks like one or many points, or dots, on a graph) and put it on a graph with the linear prediction and on another graph with the quadratic prediction. Then, when you "use a visual inspection," I think you're supposed to check which one actually fits, or which one fits more closely.
In step 1, you are supposed to write something about how your report will answer the question of whether a linear or quadratic model will be better for predicting food CPI data.
In step 2, you will say which one it is: linear or quadratic.
In step 3, you will present all the evidence and reasons why it's one or the other. This is probably the place to insert your actual graphs.
In step 4, you'll explain what "x" and "y" represent, and explain that the data only come from the food CPI, and only from a certain time period, etc.
*** Edit:
Hmm. I am not sure how to respond to your new details, other than to say that 350 words really is not a lot. I used about 350 words in this response, for instance.
I was thinking, though, do you have the first assignment? The one where, according to your instructions, "you used the linear and quadratic models you created to forecast the food CPI for the next month?" Because if you don't have that, you might need to ask a classmate who did it, or ask your teacher, or something so you can properly do the work you needed to have as the groundwork for this assignment.
I hope you can get it done!

Can someone explain this?We Answered:
Suppose you have been following food prices for several months and are trying to find a pattern. One possibility is to use a "linear" model - for example, fitting a straight line to the price of bread as a function of time. If the line is rising, then the price of bread is rising, etc.
Another possibility is to use a quadratic model - instead of a straight line, fit a parabola to the data.
Each model will have a prediction for the next month, a month for which you don't yet have data.
So the problem here is to compare the two models. So first you plot the data, then you plot the line that "best fits" the data you have and the parabola that "best fits" the same data.
Which of the two curves is a better model? Decide and explain why you made the decision.
Some arguments are:
- all other things being equal, simple models are better, so if the line fits the data as well as the parabola, then we want to use the linear model.
- the fitting algorithm for one model may give too much weight to certain data points so the other model does a better job of reflecting the general trend
etc.

What element from the periodic table should i do?We Answered:
If it was my project I would choose Lithium. Lithium is silvery white, but when it is heated, it turnes crimson (red). It is what makes some fireworks red. When it burns enough, the flame becomes a bright white. It is very reactive and corrodes very quickly in air and forms a black tarnish. It is used in antidepressants and for the treatment of bipolar disorder.
