It sounds as if your employer is resorting to arm twisting techniques and your union rep is pretending to be busy. In either case help will be available through external employment dispute bodies. I self medicated for 3 years before I got my insurance to cover the hormones. Turned out fine.

The choice was transition or death. So a 1% chance of death from self-medicating, or a 100% chance of death for not transitioning. I did, however, have my blood tested by my general practitioner every 3 months, and I did see a gender therapist. My levels were always in the normal range, as defined by Johns Hopkins.

A low fat vegetarian diet, along with at least and hour of yoga and exercise a day probably also helped prevent complications.

As long as you're responsible enough to do your research, and have your blood tested, it probably isn't any more dangerous than using an endo. Of course if you just pop pills until you feel good, you're probably going to have problems
