How To Write A Report On An Event

Joel Said:

Can you dispute an incorrectly written Police Report?

We Answered:

I had a similar problem where I was actually going INTO my driveway when a vehicle following me hit the side/rear of my car and the officer wrote it down as both our faults. I called their insurance company and told them what happened and how and they sent their own investigator, then wrote me a check to pay for the damages.

"In 2007, a teenager finishing up classes at Powell Middle School was withdrawn from public school.

His adopted mother, Tai-Ling Gigliotti, told the school district she was going to be home schooling him, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Two years later, the 16-year-old boy escaped from his home on Whitmarsh Street covered in bruises and nursing a broken arm. He told detectives last week that he had been locked in the bathroom since November 2007 every time Gigliotti and her live-in boyfriend left home."

You can title it, "Another Homeschool Success Story."

Black Friday bushfires of 13 January, destroyed over 700 homes, 69 sawmills and many businesses, farms and other buildings - a total of 1,300 buildings lost. The temperature on that day in Melbourne was 45C (113 Farenheit) (NOTE: ABC report 13/01/1999 said Melb temp "highest temperature before or since" was 45.6 C/114 Farenheit).Between 1.5 & 2 million ha burnt (incl 1.4 million ha of protected & reserved forests and 4,000 ha of plantations) and affected 75% of the State in some way.

Bushfire swept through a timber mill near Rubicon, killing 12 men. On a road near Narbethong (which was burnt out) 7 people fleeing fire in cars were burnt to death. At Omeo, sixty homes and the Golden Age hotel were destroyed. Many bridges, railway lines, telephone lines, power cables and public properties were destroyed. Two fire fronts converged near Warrandyte as women & children raced to the river, 100 homes - half the township - burnt to the ground. Serious bushfire damage occurred at or near Ballarat, Dromana, Erica, Mansfield, Ouyen, Strathewen, Coleraine, Myrtleford, Hedley, Drouin, Kiewa, Yarra Glen, Warburton and in the Grampians.

The Victorian Alps were reported burning from end to end. In the Dandenongs, many homes were lost and at Healesville elaborate safety measures were taken to save the world-famous wildlife sanctuary. The surrounding countryside was devestated. In the Buckland Valley, near Porepunkah, a man and his newphew were attempting to save a homestead. When they realised it was impossible, they made a dash for the creek 100m away. In their efforts to get through Blackberry growing near the creek, the man became hopelessly entangled and the younger male collapsed from exhaustion 9m from the creek. Both were burnt to death. In the Matlock Forest, 16 men died at one timber mill, including the owner and his two sons. A sole survivor wrapped himself in a wet blanket & ran onto a burnt-out area of land. One victim had climbed into an elevated water tank which, after the fire had passed, was found to have boiled dry. The 15 others died - some by trying to seek 'protection' in a sawdust pit. At Wood's Point, in the main street, a Country Roads Board truck laden with 44-gallon drums of petrol was parked. The heat caused the sealed drums to rupture and burning petrol added to the danger.

One fire with a 26km front was driven by wind towards the town of Nowa Nowa. Forestry officers marshalled every man in the town & by a skilfully controlled back-burn managed to stop the fire 6km out. Not so lucky was Noojee, where only the hotel & one house remained after the fires swept through. Near Moe, a man, his wife and their 3 children died on their farm as 110km/h winds blew the fire onto them. The man was frantically trying to dig a shelter in the earth for his family when they all perished. At Korang Vale, with a temperature of 46C, a sudden thunderstorm with hail hit the town & hundreds of fowls were battered to death by ice (see separate entry).

Ships on the Melbourne-Sydney run hove to, or used foghorns in the dense smoke offshore. Two days later the skies in New Zealand grew dark with the smoke. A Royal Commission set up after the fires said "it appeared the whole State was alight on Friday, 13 January, 1939." Further, in his commission report, Judge Leonard Stretton said the experience of the past could not guide the victims to an understanding of what might, and
