Format For Writing A Report

John Said:

Is there a certain format that is used for writing book reports? If so, what is it?

We Answered:

The standard form for writing essays seems to vary according to discipline. As an English teacher, I always taught my students to use the MLA style. It's fairly simple and can be adapted easily to conform to other styles like Chicago or APA.

Given that you are probably in junior high or higher, I'd stick with the MLA format (although truthfully your teacher should have told you what they want with respect to style and format already).

You can find more information as well as examples at http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resour…

This is an online writing lab from Purdue University. It's very user friendly.

Good Luck!

Tips for writing in APA style?

We Answered:

I would reccomend you check out this website: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/

It gives you a lot of of things. Here's a link to a sample APA paper with literature review. You didn't state if you had to do a literature review or not, but I hope that this helps.

Joyce Said:

Fade to Black or DeadLine which is a better book to read for a book report?

We Answered:

I would recommend Fade to Black by Alex Flinn, it's an excellent book.
The story is told from the POV of 3 characters, Alex, a teenager who has HIV, who's attacked one morning and ends up in hospital; Clinton, the person suspected of attacking Alex, and Daria, a girl with down's syndrome who attends the same school as Alex, and is the only witness to the assault. It follows each of the 3 characters, and shows you how this assault affected and changed each of their lives. It really is a gripping story, and I think the questions you have for your projects would work well with this book.
Also, Alex Flinn deals with "taboo" subjects in her books fairly often, so I think she would be more interesting to research than the other author.
