Betty Said:

how to write an ucas personal statement for two subjects? business and law?

We Answered:

wow, this will be tricky
law is competitive and you dont want to write anything in your personal statement that doesnt say im 100% commited to law. How competitive is business?

I applied for medicine and since you can only apply for 4, i used my 5th choice to apply to chemistry as a back up. i wrote my personal statement 100% for medicine and still got an offer for chemistry, but this was pretty risky. in the end it didnt matter because i got in for medicine. this is very common for medicine though, since you have the extra choice- so unis know exactly what you are doing.

You really need to think about this carefully, law is something you really have to commit to and so they arent going to want someone who wont even commit to writing their personal statement for law only. You need to think about whether you stand any chance of getting into business management with a personal statement that is aimed at law. You might want to discuss this with someone at school/college because personally i wouldnt reccoment mixing the two in your personal statement. this will probably kill any chance for law.

Questions about design portfolios and university courses...?

We Answered:

Well I am a recent graduate with my BFA in Visual Comm from University of Michigan.. Heres my advice.
1. What you put in your portfolio should change depending on who you're showing. Ex: Art schools like to see a variety of things. At least 3 peices of Fine Arts, drawings, painting, photography. I would scan them and print a copy on nice paper. Or if your going for a editorial job you should show more layouts, logos, print work.

2. My advice on this topic is, it is all about location. I am a good designer, living in Michigan, I have not been able to find a full time position in graphic design because we have no design jobs here. Yet a girl I graduated with that was a terrible designer relocated to Dallas and got hired immediately. So its all about where your willing to live. You'd get paid better too in a larger city.

3. People really look for a design degree. But if I were to go back, Id persue a CIS major and minor in design. People are looking more for people that can do web, not just design but code.

Hope this helps.
