Writing Formal Letter

Edwin Said:

Need help in writing formal letter to school district...?

We Answered:

I would recommend that you write a letter to the principal and explain your situation and that you have non-traditional hours and that the childcare required would be a hardship for your family due to this. As such, you request that your child be placed in the morning session.

Help writing a formal letter?

We Answered:

This is pretty easy, but I don't have a lot of details about your job, so you'll have to add a lot of information to the letter I've drafted below. I am assuming that you've advertised this job in some way (newspaper, internet, etc) and that you now want to interview people who sent you information about their qualifications (a resume). So, I have drafted a letter that invites them to continue the employment process by interviewing in person for the job.

Since I also do not have any information about the job itself, you will have to add any details, such as when the interview will be held (time and date), where the interview will be held, the title of the job and the country it will work in.

Also add details about the job, including actual job duties if the job title doesn't explain that well enough, explain if the job will require traveling, working at night and/or weekends, additional or ongoing education, etc. You also should give an indication of compensation (both pay and benefits offered). Also, are you paying for interview expenses (travel costs, hotel room and meals if any, etc).

Something like this:

Dear (Mr. / Ms. last name)
We are very impressed with your resume and would like to invite you to a personal interview for the position of (name of job) at (time of day) on (date) at (where).

As we exlained in our advertisement, this position will be based in (country) and will require extensive travel (world-wide or in country only, etc). We offer an extensive benefit package, and compensation will be based on your business experience and credentials.

Please respond to this letter by (usually within a few days if possible) by calling (phone number) or emailing me at (email address).

We look forward to meeting you in person.

Sincerely

(You name and title)

cc (your coleague's name and title)

Is writing a semi-formal letter by hand a bad thing?

We Answered:

It should be fine to do so, but typing a letter is more common today. Mail the letter, and call the manager about 3-4 days after you mailed the letter. I'll warn you tho. Supermarkets don't treat people very well. I don't know why, but they're careless and rude. I applied for numerous jobs at supermarket in the past, and I was treated like crap. But goodluck.

Discuss It!
