Even though your letter is informal, you still need to use the correct punctuation when using a clause or a predicate.....I received straight A's in school and still get complimented on my grammar and punctuation when writing anything at work.

Well considering it's informal, it really should be a piece of cake.

To ask about his life overseas, it's as simple as saying "So what is it like over where you are now? What's the weather like? Made many new friends? How is school out there?" Just simple questions like that.

For the news about school etc, just simply give him short information about what has been happening like: "The school are creating a new extension for the food hall."

It's really that easy =]

I only ever use 'Kind Regards, Yours faithfully' in work, I use 'best wishes' in birthday cards

or if its a close aquaintance - 'Love from'
