Writing A Letter Of Recommendation For A Student

Catherine Said:

How do I write a great letter of recommendation for a student that is not so great?

We Answered:

make it very generic and bland

Kristina Said:

What are the guidelines for writing a letter of recommendation?

We Answered:

If you are unable to find a place to start, I recommend that you use the free Microsoft Templates website. There are great templates for resumes, letters of recommendation, and cover letters there. All you have to do is download them.

All though most of the letters are pretty general, you get a nice template and you can personalize the letter with your information about the student.

I hope this helps!

Danny Said:

Can I ask a fellow student for a grad school letter of recommendation?

We Answered:

Good lord, don't even think about it.

Letters from professors are the only ones that will be taken seriously.

The one exception to this rule is if you are currently interning or working in a journalistic capacity; in this case, your managing editor could write a letter.

Bill Said:

How can I write a recommendation letter for such a significant student?

We Answered:

You can probably find samples online as a base to start. Then you have to know if this is a specific letter of recommendation (to one place) or general. Then simply write that you are recommending her, her qualities (that youve written here) and something about how she would make an excellent addition to their program. Be honest, be brief (no more then a page) and be positive.
and Word has all of those letter writing templates so don't even worry about the formatting.

Hugh Said:

I need to write a recommendation for a student teacher that was not that good. Any sites that can help?

We Answered:

I am not certain of any websites, but hopefully these phrases might help guide your writing:

While, over the course of the student teaching experience I had several issues with Mr. Teacher's time management skills, I worked with him to help rectify this situation. Mr. Teacher seemed open to my suggestions, and hopefully, over time, he will learn to manage his time more effectively.

Even though Mr. Teacher did not meet my personal standards for preparation of curriculum and daily lessons, he did seem to be open to suggestion during my counseling sessions with him.

Despite some apparant challenges Mr. Teacher encountered while working with students individually, I believe that, with future guidance from a supporting administration, he has potential to become more effective at developing a rapport with students.

You can obviously adapt these to the situations, but you need to make sure you aren't putting your "thumbs up" on this guy because, down the road, its YOUR name on this letter that others are seeing. These statements show you are being honest, but not bashing the guy. He has areas for improvement, and you are just clarifying what they are.

Hope this helps!

Help, writing a letter of recommendation?

We Answered:

You could make points such as:

she is hardworking and committed
once she puts her mind to a task she sees it through
if you personally were choosing a candidate for a program, she would be at the top of your list
she would be an asset to any program
she is a joy to teach
she relates well to staff and other students
they will not regret their decision if they choose her
