Simply start reading newspaper daily for not less than 30 minutes. U wil go thru many such words u dnt know, just mark them and after reading session, find out their meanings. This was for better writing skills as u'l b able to use good vocabulary in essays. Now for letter writing part or email, you strictly need to know what language shud b used in a formal letter and wat in an informal one. In a formal one, just try to be to the point, and in an informal, u are free to explain. Also start writing a letter daily on any subject, or just try to work it out in mind. This will prepare u to handle any kind of letter in exam...and marks wil run behind you.
Also regarding the essay part, just try to use some good proverbs based on the topic, and lay special stress on beginning the essay nd ending it properly... examiners mainly check starting, ending, vocabulary, and representation. They never go through whole of it. Ok best of luck,bye
