Letter Of Interest

Terry Said:

How should I start my Interest Letter off for Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Inc?

We Answered:

1. The letter should be one page in length.

2. It should tell us why, specifically, you believe that you should be offered membership.

3. It should tell us what you have to offer the sorority.

4. It should give us an explanation as to why you want to be a member of our sorority.

5. You can leave out some of the more obvious things, like what school u attend.

6. You should approach writing it like you are in an interview; think of some of the questions that would matter to the the interviewer (above mentioned points) and answer them in the letter.

7. The letter should open you up to the chapter members reading it and it should give them a real feel for who you are.

What is a letter of interest for teaching?

We Answered:

There are several things that you should include in a letter of interest for a teaching position.

Include information about why you are choosing to apply for the position at hand. List your reasons. It's always good to make the school system sound as good as possible when doing this. For example, you may want to teach in the area because the system is in a rural area. Instead of saying "I want to teach in the country", say "I am attracted to the natural beauty of the setting of this system". Do not make it sound cheesy or like total flattery, but do make it more creative than just stating the obvious.

Secondly, include information about why you are qualified for this position. Talk about your educational background and your work experience that have prepared you for the job at hand.

Thirdly, state your plans for the future and how you would be an excellent candidate for the position at hand. What do you plan to do in order to enrich the lives of the students in the school system? This might be where you give a brief (very brief) insight into your teaching philosophy / pedagogy.

The last thing you should do in your letter of interest is thank the system for accepting your letter of application and for taking the time to consider your credentials. Again, be sincere and avoid the cheesy.

Your letter of interest shouldn't be more than 2 typed pages, if that long. Do not go into deep detail. This letter is just to introduce you to the reader. You will have time to go into detail at the interview.

Be sure to proofread your letter before you mail it! Do not rely solely on spellchecker programs on the computer to help you do this. Have someone you trust help you do this. A letter with mistakes is definitely not going to get you anywhere.

Print the letter on high quality paper. If you have printed your resume on resume paper, do the same with your letter. If not, then use a bright white paper. This will be an attention getter from the very beginning.

Best wishes and good luck on securing a teaching position!

What is the difference between a letter of interest and a cover letter?

Myself I think that letters are good, providing they are written utilizing good syntax and spelling (always use a spoil chequer!). You can get some good guidance for writing letters by reading the website in the box below, it's got plenty of alternative things about job seeking as well.
