Hold a match to the edge of the paper and burn it slightly in different places. You could also hold the match a few inches away without burning the paper, but turning it yellow-brown.

Another idea is to write the letters on plain white paper but using a fountain pen with black ink. A blotch or a crossing out or two might look authentic. You would have to practice your handwriting to pull it off.
