Hi Bewitched - When I was in college, I found an awsome forum site on the internet that I could almost always search and find answers to anything relating to writing, grammar, etc. The administrators on the site are very intellectual. Some are professors, etc. and are from around the world. You'll enjoy the site too - has some fun things there as well. And it's all free.

First you need to find out why the class was suspended. Then you need to address that in the petition. (Was it a money issue, can't find an instructor, don't want to keep the building open.)

Just make it simple. Say we the undersigned would like you to reinstate the Tuesday evening calculus class because.... Then list some reasons. Like I said, be sure you talk about why they stopped the class and offer solutions. Say why you can't take any other classes, like Saturday or online classes if offered. Make sure that future potential students also sign and mark them as such.

I am assuming you mean prerequisite classes to take another class, not for admissions purposes. In this case you don't need to write a letter. Just write an e mail to the professor explaining why you need to take the class now and why you should be allowed to not complete the prerequisites. I did this and did not even give my reasons, I just said that I was a student with those research interests and may have included something about having completed a good deal of reading on the subject. I got an e mail back saying that it was not a problem, that simple.
