How do you write a cover letter?

We Answered:

A cover letter for what?

Generally a cover letter is just a letter telling the recipient what it is that you have just sent them (enclosed with the letter).

Just put the date, the name and address of the recipient, a line that tells them what the letter is regarding (this is the "RE:" part), then a simple paragraph saying something like:

"Enclosed please find .......... Thank you for your consideration. Please contact me at the above address or phone number if you have any questions."

Then a closing like "Sincerely,"

What do i write in a cover letter?

We Answered:

Here are a few Do's and Dont's

DO...
1. Address the letter to a specific individual whenever possible.
2.Develop a bridge between yourself and employer at the very beginning- tell how you learned of the vacancy.
3.Give a brief statement emphasizing your qualifications for this position.
4.Use words directly from the job to describe what you can do.
5.Emphasize what you can do for an employer rather than what he can do for you.
6.Highlight parts of the enclosed resume which specifically pertain to the job offered.
7.Indicate the dates that you are available for interviewing.
9.Sign each letter.
9.Follow up the mailing with a telephone call.

Don'ts...

1.Don't use awkward salutations as, "To Whom It May Concern" or "Dear Sir or Madam".
2.Don't begin each sentence with "I".
3.Don't fill the page; stick to three or four short paragraphs.
4.Don't use cliches or overused expressions.
5.Don't change from one style to another in the same letter. Stick to either block or semi-block.
6.Don't send out duplicated letters.
