We Answered:

Chicago Power & Light

Attention: Customer Service Department

Re: May Invoice

Today we received the May invoice for utility service, which shows that our request to return to regular monthly billing has not yet been effected. We made this request in early April.

Kindly update your records to effect the change to monthly billing, and send us a written confirmation. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Clifford Said:

Given the formal style of a business letter, which of the following details would you place after the sentence?

We Answered:

Please remember that the organization that is hiring doesn't much care about #2,3, or4 unless it has something to do with the job. #1 is fine if you truly do have something unique about your qualifications.
Please consider me for the position you advertised in XXX on (date). I am an organized, innovative, and Intelligent individual. I learn quickly, have a great deal of experience, and am willing to work a flexible schedule.
Tell the employer about you...not a bunch of filler stuff.
Hope this helps.

Karl Said:

How long should a formal apology letter to a business be?

We Answered:

Ideally, a business letter should be 3 to 4 paragraphs long, with each paragraph having 3 to 5 sentences.

This is a very general figure.

I would suggest you write the letter and keep it natural, and restrict it to one page. Show it to someone and get their feedback.

Frank Said:

Writing a formal business letter with a cc and a P.S. In what order do they go?

We Answered:

The CC should come after the PS. In layout terms the PS is closer to the sign-off and the CC is at the bottom of the page. Also don't foget the address and date up top before you start the letter.

Hope this helps

Jo Said:

Is this the formal way to respond to a business letter in Spanish? Spanish speakers only?

We Answered:

You should begin your letter with a heading such as "Estimado Señor/a ______________". If the person has a title, use that instead of señor/a.

"miro adelante a" is a direct translation from English that doesn't make sense in Spanish. That sentence might sound better rewritten as "Quedo a la espera de su pronta respuesta" or "Quedo a la espera de sus prontas noticias." If you say "cuando le sea conveniente" it almost sounds like you don't personally care when you hear back, just whenever the dude gets around to it.

You close your communication with "Le saluda atentamente [your name]"
