Correct Letter Writing

Marilyn Said:

Writing a letter to company requesting rights to some media. Please help correct letter.?

We Answered:

Sounds really good.

para 1 -- remove comma before THAT (nonrestrictive clauses beginning with THAT do not take a comma)

I would be a little less "Hi, there" and more formal with "Dear Sir/Madam". If you are going to convince them that you understand business protocols that in fact WILL represent them well, you should start by showing you know and will use basic forms of courteous business address. Small thing, but not really, and I would notice that inconsistency if you were writing to me.

Your complimentary close of Thanks is a little informal and breezy, too. I would use Thank you for your consideration. as one sentence and then Sincerely, as your close.

Everything else looks good to me.

April Said:

What's the correct punctuation when writing a single letter in an essay?

We Answered:

If it is not being spoken then it is just A, but if it happens to be spoken it would be "A"

Annette Said:

What is the correct salutation when writing a letter to a lutheran pastor?

We Answered:

“The Reverend Walter Snyder” or even “The Reverend Pastor Walter Snyder.” Then, in the salutation and elsewhere you speak to me rather than about me, you would normally say, “Pastor Snyder.”

Maurice Said:

Is it correct to write "Dear (agency name)," when writing a letter?

We Answered:

Nope its not really professional, if you dont know the name of the person your contacting you can write "Dear Sir/Madam" or "To whom it may concern"
