Writing Prompts For Kids

Nellie Said:

Rate my writing PLEASE!.?

We Answered:

eh, honestly, your grammer's not so good, and it doesn't flow nor is it very coherent. i'd give you a 4. maybe this will help:

Since I am an only child I am somewhat spoiled, and although I may not be the most well behaved child, I'm not the worst behaved either. Although I am the only child in my immediate family, I have cousins that are older and some that are younger, so I experience being the middle child in that sense. The dynamics in my family are well balanced. I have many family members that are from different ethnicities and backgrounds. And although some of my family members do not get along, I seem to get along with everyone. All these things are what I feel makes my family special, and the dynamics interesting.

I HOPE YOU CAN SEE THAT I KEPT THE IDEA & SOME OF THE CONTENT THE SAME, JUST MADE IT MORE COHERENT (it flows better & makes sense because the grammer is correct). YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE IT WORD FOR WORD, BUT IT WILL HELP YOU IN THE FUTURE ON HOW TO WRITE PROPERLY.

Julie Said:

What's your favorite writing prompt?

We Answered:

My favorite was written by one of the members of my school's writing club. It goes something like this...

"You fall down a hole and meet a dwarf. He will grant you ONE wish. What do you wish for?"

It was just so ridiculous that it became an instant classic in our group.

Freddie Said:

What's a good prompt for ex. credit to compare and contrast a movie version of a novel they read?

We Answered:

Have the students write about the similarities and the disparities of how a movie director changes the novel to make it interesting for moviegoers.

Peggy Said:

Does the internet create moral and ethical problems?

We Answered:

Great analogy! I personally don't think that the Internet creates moral/ethical problems, but it does exasperate them. This is especially true in the case of child predators --the wall of anonymity that keeps them veiled is a scary side of effect of Internet access. Unfortunately, in order to preserve our rights to freedom, we give up a bit of security too.

Can you help me with a writing prompt for middle schoolers?

We Answered:

I nearly started a riot in a sixth grade classroom when I asked the students, "What do you think of your school lunch?" Within 10 minutes, they were making petitions to have the lunch program changes to be healthier. They were so captivated.

I was also in another middle school classroom where the students had written fantastic essays called "Those who don't know ." They each picked a topic they loved (say football) and wrote an essay that formatted as follows:

The Assignment - Copy Change

Students are to write their own "Those Who Don't." The essay should be about a place where they feel comfortable, but where others may not feel comfortable. It should also include information about a place where they feel uncomfortable. The following phrases should be included in the three paragraph essay:

Those who don't know any better ....... They think ..... They think ..... They are stupid people who.....

Be we aren't afraid .....

....our knees go shakity shake ..... Yeah. That's how it goes and goes.

I hope this helps!
