I would definitely think an advisor can write you a letter of rec. I had an advisor of mine for college write a letter of rec for my grad school app. and it worked. If the club advisor knows you better than other teachers I would say go for it!

No. Don't do it. It is unethical, because even though your reasoning for giving money is to give them a "boost" to write them already, it can come across as if you paid off teachers to give you a good reference. On top of it, they may even report your actions. Wait until you get the letters and then maybe send a nice card - avoid expensive gifts or cash. The best thing is to send a card and then get them a gift at Christmas a few months later in appreciation.

And if they are taking too long, just contact them and let them know that the deadline is approaching - and ask if you could do anything to make it easier (ie. speak with them or come pick up the letter directly). Some might not know what to write and might even want you to help a bit (not to write it for them, but they might not know everything about you).

I am a high school teacher that gets asked for recommendations and I think most teachers would agree with me that it is part of the job. The more I like a particular student, the more I enjoy writing their recommendation letter. The only times I have refused to write them is if I can't write anything positive about the student the letter would do them more harm than good.

how long it takes depends on the teacher. Make sure to give them plenty of time. I have way too many students ask me for one that they need in 20 minutes or 2 hours and it doesn't happen.

thank you notes are usually "expected" a week after the thing that someone did something nice for you.

you can write whatever you feel you are more comfortable with. but a nice note from YOU would be more appreciated and show your professers that you actually put thought into it and do appreciate their time to write those recommendation letters.....i would write a personal one if it were me.

Generally speaking, collegs won't contact recommendation writers, as the admission file reviewers have only a limited amount of time to read and evaluate applications.

There are some special instances in which the admission office will contact recommendation writers to clarify certain things in the letter or confirm what seems to be a pattern in the applicant's file.
