Writing A Resignation Letter
Marie Said:
When writing a resignation letter do I put the last day of work or the following day as the effective date?We Answered:
You would normally write "resigning as of the end of the workday on March 15 2007" if that was going to be the last day you were expecting to be there and get paid.Diana Said:
hi guys how would I go about writing a letter of resignation? We Answered:
Make sure you first check your terms and conditions of employment to see how much notice you are required to give, and if there are any conditions attached (for example like a hairdresser not being able to work within 5 miles of previous job or poach clients etc). At some places you have to pay back training costs if you leave within a certain time so be prepared for that. Make sure you personally address the letter to the correct person (usually you will know who this is in a small company but you might have to research this in a big concern). Write a letter rather than email and keep a copy. Hand deliver if possible. Resist the temptation to be negative - you will need a reference from this person at some point. Find a positive ('thank you for the opportunities' etc). Stay calm - this may come as a shock to the company and sometimes people can say things in the hat of the moment. The good thing is that you have another job to go to. Good luck.Jason Said:

Writing letter or resignation, need some examples PLEASE?We Answered:
You sound way too angry right now--don't put anything in writing that can hurt you later. Even if you don't care about burning bridges, you never know who you will need in the future. Your next employer might insist on getting an employment confirmation from this employer--or might wonder what happened and why you are not using it. For example, when you apply for another job after the one you are entering in a week, you may need someone from this current company even if you don't think you will today.Just keep your resignation letter professional. Also, resignation letters, in my opinion, are not the place to voice complaints. It's too late at this point and it can be percieved as "sour grapes" on your part. Suck it up and move on. Ask yourself what you can do better next time to avoid situations like this. If there is an exit interview conducted by Human Resources when you leave, be professional when you articulate the issues you encountered.
Here's a simple letter:
Dear (Your Boss' Name Here):
The objective of this letter is to notify you that I am resigning my position as (Enter Title here), effective July x, 2006.
I have found my time at Company X valuable and wish you and the company continued success in the future.
Sincerely,
Your Name
I used the word "valuable" since you should be able to learn something positive even from terrible situations--like how to handle them better in the future or avoid them.
Good luck!

I am writing a resignation letter that shows that I am still loyal, how do I do that?We Answered:
Thats nice to hear i bet - but you do have to move on - simply state in the letter that you are not searching for other employment however you are looking for another career path instead....Jennifer Said:
should i be writing a resignation letter so soon?? help!!!!?We Answered:
It sounds like your current job has realized that you really aren't planning a future with that company...so they're ready to ditch you. You did sort of verbally resign by having your current job help you get a new one.I think you should hold off on the resignation...although depending on the company, they may try start trying to get rid of you (find any excuse to fire you).
Really, wait until you hear something from the other company...but since you've screwed things up with your current job, I would start looking for a backup in case things don't work out with the new job.

writing a resignation letter with negative statements about manager? We Answered:
Absolutely NOT.Write a short professional letter.
Do however, contact your company's HR department and ask that you have an Exit Interview with HR and a Manager above the level of your "problem" manager. This can be done via conference call and it is usuual policy for many companies.
Make notes and tell your story, but DO NOT get mad or emotional. Say "I really liked working for ______, but this manager made it impossible to continue working there." Suggest they interview other people in the department. That's it. They now know.
