Write Your Own Will
Joseph Said:
Can you write your own will (in the UK) w/o using a solicitor? We Answered:
You can certainly write your own will. There are advantages in using a solicitor, but they are expensive and not everyone can afford their services. Courts strive to uphold the wishes of the testator even where there is some problem, but you really need to make sure that the matter will not need to go to court, because that will certainly eat away a large portion of your estate! You need to avoid ambiguity and to make sure that your will is properly witnessed. What is being witnessed, in fact, is not the contents but your signature. The two witnesses should be people who do not stand to inherit under the terms of the will and they should add their names and addresses in block capitals under their signatures.
