It's possible you are using a .WAV or other format instead of converting it to a compressed file like .MP3, .MP4, or other variance where the ratio is dropped from MB to KB in most cases.

Try downloading a software that converts from the original song extension to those two formats where the file is compressed to iTunes ready format.
