Dear Family at home:
I'm writing this in the hopes that all are fine, and that the children are listening to you Mother.
Over here our conditions are very rough and this rain will not let up, it seems that everytime we get a foxhole built and dry the Lord in heavens looks down and pours buckets of rain down. Be sides being bad for my platoon's spirit's it is playing hell on the guys, as our feet are always wet, and there is a lot of trench foot going around and the medics just can't keep on top of it.
And Mother, to get a few quick winks in to sleep is a chore in itself and a must needed relief, but with the gerrie bombs going off all over we all sleep with one eye open anyhow.
Those damn Germans have sprung another surprise on us to my darling wife, we had the chlorine gas to deal with and now the dirty fighters are hitting us with something new that the boys at the front are calling "mustard gas" and I have seen a few cases of it at the field hospital and our lads are just terrible mother, drowing in their own fluids that collect in the lungs, and those horrible skin whelts are everywhere they were exosed my dear, just pray for me with the family and I shall come home to you unscathed. I pray everyday my love to be in your arms back at our little farm in Saskatchewan, and I pray it soon, we have had word that the Americans are coming to help soon too help with this fight with the Keiser, and Mother, as God as my witness the allies will prevail.
I think of you every waking moment and the children, which I want you to give them a big hug from their Papa and a kiss from me also Mother.
