Wedding Vows Write Your Own
Carol Said:
Do you have to write your own vows when you are renewing? We Answered:
I don't think writing your own vows is necessary whether you are renewing or it is your inital wedding. But you should run it past your officiant so they know you want to do the "standard" vows and just repeat after him/her.
Jimmie Said:
Atheists: Would you be willing to write your own vows, without mention of deities, for your wedding? We Answered:
I did - no deity had anything to do with why I married, so there was no need to mention any of them. My husband is also an atheist, but I think writing vows to the person you're marrying and not to a god is the way to go for any marriage.Rebecca Said:
Wedding Vows Traditional or Write your Own?We Answered:
You write you own vows. Need the time to put your feelings down on paper. Remembering what you wrote is not an easy task standing at the alter. Both of you have to agree to write them. Writing them out on little note papers looks stupid.Repeating after the officiant is easy.
Maybe you could get the officiant to read them and you repeat them after him as you would normally. I don't know why that hasn't been done.
You know what you are capable of doing. Discuss it and find the best way for both of you. You didn't ask but I will say.... another nice thing to do at a religious ceremony (I don't think it will work for a High Mass.) have the officiant stand with his/her back to the audience while the two of you face the audience. It looks good and everyone can clearly see and hear you.

Did you write your own Wedding Vows?We Answered:
Kristy, we did this and it worked out great. My wife did go on line to get some ideas and we used a few lines that we read. This way we can repeat these same vows when we renew our vows every 5 years.
