Technical Writing Examples

Anna Said:

How is analogy used Technical Writing?

We Answered:

Technical writing translates complex technical concepts and instructions into simpler language in order to enable users to perform a specific task in a specific way. To present appropriate information, writers must understand the audience and their goals. Audience analysis is a key feature of all technical writing.

"Technical writers often use analogies to explain new material. Analogies are the comparison between unfamiliar concepts and familiar concepts. Highlighting the similarities. Example: office filing system in comparison to hierarchial structure of computer media. Drawing a parallel between stored information in a manual filing system to that of the electronic data retrieval system. Analogies are useful in relating something familiar to something that needs to be understood." **

Engineering
Often a physical prototype is built to model and represent some other physical object. For example, wind tunnels are used to test scale models of wings and aircraft, which act as an analog to full-size wings and aircraft.

In science
Analogues are often used in theoretical and applied sciences in the form of models or simulations which can be considered as strong analogies. Other much weaker analogies assist in understanding and describing functional behaviours of similar systems. For instance, an analogy commonly used in electronics textbooks compares electrical circuits to hydraulics.

Minnie Said:

why articles of newspapers are example outputs of technical writing?

We Answered:

Mainstream media are the opposite of technical writing. Mainstream media like The New York Times and Washington Post offer articles that concern the citizens. Technical publications offer information specifically for those in certain industries. Like a tech pub might write have an article about how the newest toaster functions. While mainstream will have the latest decision by Congress.
