Need Help Picking an Undergrad Major? We Answered:
Here's the thing about astronomy - there really aren't any jobs in it if you don't have a PhD, and that takes about 10 years for a full-time student to finish. And you should be majoring in physics if you want to be an astronomer, and that has a lot more labs than an astronomy major. Philosophy, art, and literature are among the worst majors for finding a job after you graduate. That would leave political science and economics. Personally, I'd go with economics because it's more interesting. But I'm going the PhD in astronomy route instead, since I had the time.Heidi Said:
Suspended for class project?We Answered:
This doesn't sound like your getting all the facts. If this were the case, and the project was assigned by the professor, your brother should be able to go to the Dean with another student to share their insights. Sounds like there's more going on though.Carole Said:
Can I get into these colleges? We Answered:
Honestly I'm fairly sure you're set at almost every one of them... true they're great universities, but they aren't as selective as the ivies.Johnnie Said:
Question about college admission..?We Answered:
UNC-CH and Wake Forest are big reaches for you on account of your SAT scores. You might want to get some tutoring and retake it. As for the other schools, as I recall, they are not among the "top 100 schools", which means that with your SAT scores and grades admission should be easy.I do not believe in applying to "reach schools". A student who wants to go to graduate school is much better off with a very high college GPA from an easier school, than with an average GPA from a "top"school, except for Ivy grad schools, which give preference to Ivy undergrads, but Ivies are well beyond your reach for undergraduate school as you know.
I went to undergraduate school at a small state university which was not even in the "top 200", earned virtually all A grades, and was admitted to a top ten grad school. Grad school is what counts! The education at almost all classroom (not online) undergraduate schools is virtually the same if the student applies him/herself. I certainly do not believe in paying tuition for a private college or university or one that is out-of-state at the undergraduate level, except for top students who are admitted to top 15 schools.
Most public undergraduate campuses in a student's home state are fine. I know of a few in California and one in Michigan with very bad conditions for undergrads and I'm sure there are a few others.
Best wishes.

What if you don't get accepted into any school? + colleges suck + any college tips/ complaints are welcome!?We Answered:
I feel your pain. I had a GPA of 2.3, with a class rank of 78/80. My class was really competitive and even my friend who had mostly A's didn't even get in the top half of the class!I was always on academic probation due to my bad grades, so I was not allowed to participate in any sports. I also was suspended a couple of times.
I applied to two colleges: one was a sure thing that accepted almost anyone and the college that I wanted to go to. I only got accepted to one of them, so I worked my butt of there for a year and transferred to the college I really wanted to go to.
