Press Release Writing

Beatrice Said:

When writing a press release, do you submit the same piece to?

We Answered:

It depends. If you are trying to reach different audiences, you may want to tailor your releases to different markets. For example, if you are going to issue a release inviting the public to an antique show, you can have the same information to the local newspapers and broadcast outlets. If you are sending a press release to an antique collectors' magazine, you may want to go into greater depth about items for sale or on display, where the dealers come from, their specialties and oganisational affiliations.
In other words, consider your audience.

Press release?

We Answered:

Try contacting the Public Information Officer of a large corp. or government entity. Ask them to perform this service for you not for profit project. Possibly one of them will perform this service for you for no charge. If your project is worthwhile, I expect you will have no problem finding someone to perform this for you "pro bono". Good luck.

How do you go about writing a press release ?

We Answered:

Write in the third person. Stick to the facts. Make it timely and interesting. Make your article answer some questions readers might have.

Write the important stuff first, so that an editor crammed for space can cut from the back.

Get it to the editor's desk and mark it "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE"

Good luck!
