The writer presents facts and opinions to get the reader to understand why something is right, wrong, or in between. Editorials, letters to the editor in newspapers and magazines, and the text for a political speech are examples of persuasive writing.
A good way to use persuasive techniques is to focus on the reader's emotions. For example, if the paper is about pollution and directed to parents, talk about the harmful effects pollution has on childern. If you can get the reader emotional involved in your writing you can do a better job persuading them on the issue.

To accomplish this, you must chose a topic which is clear and to the point and one which has more than one side that can be debated. It is important that you understand the other sides of the position so that you can give strong reasons why your way is best. In your essay, you will only present one side.
