Mla Writing Format

Juan Said:

What is MLA format when writing an essay?

We Answered:

When you paraphrase or quote something in the essay, you put the title and the paragraph of the page of article/journal/book that you received the information from. Put this in parenthesis after the sentence and THEN put the period. For example, "Elephants are big" ("Elephants" par. 5). Also, in your bibliography at the end, you cite it like this: Last name of author/corporation (First and middle name if there is an author - Smith, Will J.), page or article title, name of website or web project, date of last copyright or update, URL, and most recent date of access. For example,

Bibliography

Disney. "The Seven Dwarfs." Disney.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 21 Feb. 2010.
sevendwarfs.html>.

Make sure to put it exactly in the above format (press tab once in all lines after the first line). Also, make sure to double space your essay. In the top right corner of each page, put your last name and the number of the page. You're all set! Go get 'em!

What is the proper MLA format for writing a research paper with a group?

We Answered:

I'm not sure, but here's a great source.
Either
www.citationmachine.net
or
www.easybib.com

first, click on MLA, then choose book as your source. Somewhere, there should be a button to "add an author." Fill out all the fields with your book info, and it will format the MLA citation for you!

What is MLA format when writing an English Essay? 10 POINTS! I SWEAR TO BOB!?

We Answered:

MLA format is just a way of formatting your paper, it's preferred in standard essays (such as from your english class), so learn it now 'cause you'll need it later...however it's actually much easier than what people make of it:

paper formatting...the basics:
-1inch margins all around

-use 12point font...and legible font like arial or times new roman

-identify specifics at the start of your paper...flush left and type in your name, instructor's name, course, and date (dd_month_yyyy)

-after specifics, enter your title. Center the title...don't underline it nor quote it

-after the title, start your paper

-create a header 1/2inch down from the top of the page and flush right...type in your last name and insert page number (last name_page#)

-double space the entire paper (don't put an extra double space between paragraphs, the spacing between paragraphs should look like the rest of your paper)

-italicize or underline titles of works

-only create a title page if your instructor asks for it

referencing and quoting, as well as the works cited page is where it gets messy...it varies depending on your sources, so just check up some sites that offer examples based on the sources that you use. heh, I've done MLA formatting more than enough times to be sick of it, so feel free to email if you need help.

Amy Said:

What does it mean to use MLA format when writing out citations?

We Answered:

The Modern Language Association (MLA) Style is widely used for identifying research sources. In MLA style you briefly credit sources with parenthetical citations in the text of your paper, and give the complete description of each source in your Works Cited list. The Works Cited list, or Bibliography, is a list of all the sources used in your paper, arranged alphabetically by author's last name, or when there is no author, by the first word of the title (except A, An or The). [5.1-5.5]

For example:

In the text of your paper:

The first gambling Web site appeared in 1995, and online gambling has since become the most
lucrative Internet business (Will 92).

or,

George Will reported that in 2002 Internet gambling surpassed pornography to become the
Internet's most lucrative business (92).

In your Works Cited list:

Will, George F. "Electronic Morphine." Newsweek 25 Nov. 2002: 92.
