How To Write Stories

Richard Said:

How can I release the energy into the stories I write?

We Answered:

Actually, that's what happens with me. I get pissed off and angry, and I end up going on a tear in some of my books that I write. If I'm in the middle of a fight scene between 2 characters, I tend to go all out--not bothering to spare the horses.

If it's a battle, it tends to get darker and more moody.

But it turns out better than I thought--because my wife got my pants in a bind. :0)

Ron Said:

How to write stories without any life experience?

We Answered:

I have exactly the same problem! I'm sixteen, and haven't experienced a lot of life yet. How am I supposed to write how a woman getting a divorce feels, when I don't even have a boyfriend! And yet I want to seem credible, too. Here's my advice to you: write mostly about what you know, and make up what you don't. Try and imagine what you would feel in their shoes. Close your eyes, let the scene play out in your head, and just FEEL. There are books on how to portray emotions through writing, and you can always ask questions on Yahoo! Answers. Without Y!A I would probably have nothing written, it's a lifesaver! Also, don't be afraid to google things, you'd be surprised with what you can find on the world wide web! Good luck to you. :)

Nellie Said:

How do I write stories when life distractions won’t let me?

We Answered:

Pack your modem up in a box, tape it up tight and hide it in the loft for a week or two. You'll be amazed at the other things you find time for without the dastardly internet at your fingertips. Built-in modem? Get rid of your whole computer and write in notebooks instead.

Seriously.

Really. Seriously.

I also recommend reading 'The War of Art' by Stephen Pressfield. It's an inspiration and a great kick up the butt for procrastinators like you (and me).

Basically, there's no easy answer. You just have to stop wasting your time and focus on what's important. Get a hold of yourself. Shut the distractions out in whatever way you have to. Once you've started breaking the habits you'll find it easier and easier.

Heather Said:

How can I get in the mood to write stories?

We Answered:

Something that always motivates me to write is reading a good book that makes me want to produce writing of the same caliber. Read several good books, watch certain movies, or listen to songs that bring out an emotional response from you. When you feel you have the right amount of inspiration, go to a quiet place (free from any distractions) and jot down your ideas.

Beatrice Said:

What is a website where you can write stories?

We Answered:

www.Mibba.com its the best site. I personally recomend it. You can add chapters to your story, you or others can comment on your story to other peoples stories, change font to your writing etc. It's the best ever. And it's free to join.

Nathaniel Said:

What are the chances of me (accidentally) copying someones work, if I decide to write stories, novel...?

We Answered:

This is probably highly likely and happens more than people think. No one can read every book and compare them to every other book, so I'm sure there are many stories identical, especially not mainstream or well known works.

Carla Said:

I like to write stories, long novels, but I always get off track. How do I push myself through?

We Answered:

I think you've got a planning failure, so you lose focus and direction.

Outlining is only one approach to planning.

Try writing a detailed synopsis. Make an index card for every scene, telling where it's set, who's in it, and what happens. Make a flow chart. Write a query letter for it as if it were finished.

Once you've forced yourself to plan the whole thing, then when your feel disinterest coming on, you can soldier ahead because you know where you're going.

Discuss It!
